Chalk Development

The development of powdered chalk came from the frustration of using hard chalks for creating background techniques for cards and scrapbook pages. The palette chalk was difficult to spread and would break into small chunks. After taking a hammer to the chunks and still not being able to spread chalk effectively, I developed powdered chalk. Removing all harsh chemicals, we replaced them with additives that create special effects and help to bind them to the paper. It is easier to spread and so versatile. I have found it works better for everything I used other chalks for in the past, and has opened a whole new world of uses for chalk. New uses and techniques are being developed daily.

We will be offering two monthly contests: (1) best new technique and (2) best all around design submitted. The winner in each category is awarded a $20.00 product certificate (our stamp need not be used, but if they are an additional $5.00 certificate is awarded ) Our stamps can be found at www.stampaffair.com

Please send your entries to Stamp N Plus Scrap N at P.O. Box 47 Chippewa Falls, WI 54729. Send an e-mail to LuAnn if you are interested in becoming a member of our design team. Buzz N Magic Chalk Patent Pending

In 2003 Stamp N Plus added a line of scrapbooking stamps and changed its name to Stamp N Plus Scrap N. During that same year Buzz N Magic Powdered Chalk was created and developed by owner LuAnn Hale.

In 2005 Buzz N Magic Glue (acid free) and Buzz N Magic Paint were added to the Buzz N Magic line.

We are looking forward to adding new products and programs to enhance our line on a regular basis. Please watch for new and exciting products and programs still to come in 2005.

Powdered Chalk Types

Through the development of our powdered chalks, we created four different textures of chalk:

Dusts: Dust chalks will give you the same effect as hard chalks and will remain the solid color they are. Dust chalks do not need to be set with a workable fixative or hairspray.

Powders: Powered chalks have an additive that isolates individual color pigments so you will have streaks of color throughout your work These chalks are some of our hottest sellers. Powder chalks do not need to be set with a workable fixative or hairspray.

Fluorescents: Fluorescent chalks offer bright, vibrant colors and have the same effect as the Dusts chalks when applied. Fluorescent chalks need to be set with a workable fixative or hairspray.

Metallics: Metallic chalks are rich, shimmery colors that add dazzle and shine to any project you may create. Included in the metallic category, we offer a special chalk called Stardust, which has a white-iridescent appearance. Stardust can be mixed with any of the other chalks to give them a metallic look (two parts color to one part Stardust) or dabbed over a project just to give it a shimmer. Metallic chalks need to be set with a workable fixative or hairspray.

Techniques

The technique that started it all was applying the chalk directly to the paper using a cotton ball.  First, dip the cotton ball into your chalk color and rub it over the entire surface you are creating.  Uncoated card stock produces the best results.

Next, you can use an eraser to make background designs by choosing our grid pattern, stencil, template or torn paper.  When you are finished erasing the background, dust it off with our retractable brush.  See some of our background samples shown below.

What happens next is magic!  Stamp your favorite stamp image onto the background you just created, and using a Q-tip apply more of the same color chalk lightly over the Versamarked image.  Your favorite stamp image will magically appear!  Dust it off and you are done

Sample Backgrounds

All of the backgrounds shown above are done with an eraser, torn edge of paper, clear grid ruler, stencil or template. Let your imagation run wild!
